When bloggers don’t reply to your comments…

…how do you feel?

I have had this recent experience. I have been reading this blog for quite some time now and was growing to be an ardent fan of this blogger. Loving the content, the writing style, the topics just about everything, I felt totally in awe of this person. And one fine day I decided to leave a comment hoping to get acquainted with this person whom I had come to admire most. A day passed by and then two and then some more and this blogger had still not replied to my comment.

First I was hopeful, then sad and then when more than 5 days had passed, the finality of it left me disappointed. I was disappointed with myself, wondering whether my comment was not intellectually stimulating enough to make the blogger respond. But then no, in all fairness it was good enough to make someone respond to it. Then I was disappointed with the blogger, wondering whether the readers and commenters were important at all?

I am not talking about those bloggers who are super busy, who get what 40-50 comments per post and they do a group reply, I am fine with that as long as there is a reply. And I also understand those who are busy and have no time to reply to comments, who mention this in their post or next post.

I don’t mean to say that my comments are some rocket science or something very stupid, but it is just that, if someone is taking out their time to read your blog and comment upon it, you should be gracious enough to acknowledge them.

  1. Hmmm.. I guess ask the blogger in an email. I had a blogger friend who just stopped reading or writing on her own blog. I grew concerned since I was really enjoying her posts and feedback. So I sent her a note, she replied back with a genuine response.. and all is well!

Right now for me as well… for a few reasons, I was totally cut off… and after a while or so, now responding back… it just depends I guess!

  2. Hmmm hope its not me u r talking about hehehe because lately I have stopped replying only coz of lack of time. Sigh!

But yes I agree with you I hate not seeing a reply to my comments and you know I have come across blogger’s who reply selectively and that hurts!

    • No yaar Smita. Not you. Ofcourse not. This is a person I have never contacted before. And yes exactly, this blogger has replied to other’s comments and not mine. It hurts na? Hope your son is doing good πŸ™‚

  3. Interesting !Thanks for talking in behalf of many, but success in any try calls for never say die attitude. keep blogging and disappointing on another till it turns difficult to ignore any more.

  4. truly agree..
even i have this experience… that blogger replies to everyone’s comments but not mine.
of course when we take out time reading the article or story we leave a comment expressing ourselves and do expect a back reply too…

    • My point exactly! We take out time and express and it leaves me frustrated when there is no reply. But am not gonna give up, am gonna comment, mail and bug until I get a reply. πŸ™‚

  5. I’ve had this happen to me about 5 times now. Two of the times I wrote the comments I wrote were really from the heart (advice was asked) and I didn’t get replies, I find it quite rude in general for bloggers not to reply to each other. X

  6. I absolutely agree with this post!

Recently, I had this experience with a blog that I discovered because the blogger followed my blog. When I clicked over to her blog, I liked the content. Over the past few days, I have left three thoughtful comments on different posts and haven’t received a reply.

I appreciate that some bloggers are very, very busy, especially those who receive hundreds of comments. But I can see that the blog I commented on doesn’t receive a deluge of comments, so I think a simple “thanks for commenting” would be polite.

I dislike following bloggers who never, ever reply to comments — my personal policy is to stop following them. I can’t be bothered to spend time writing a comment if it is just ignored.
